Abstract:
The aim of this study was to show the changes in the level of iron ,total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) , and transferrin in serum and saliva of alcoholic liver cirrhosis [ALC] and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis [NASH] patients. The participants were male ( n= 15) ALC patients , (n= 15) NASH patients and an equal number of age-matched normal healthy individuals to be used as a control. The results indicated that there is a highly significant decrease in serum TIBC ( p<0.05) in both groups in comparisons
to their corresponding controls. while nonsignificant variations were observed in the level of serum iron, salivary iron , salivary TIBC , and salivary transferrin (p>0.05) in these groups in comparison to the healthy control groups.
