Abstract:
In this research a new physical deposition methods has been chosen, plasma nitriding is an economical method to improve the corrosion resistance for three types of alloys (C.S 1045,C.S 1137and Al 5083). The nitriding process occur by using direct-current glow discharge system with operated condition (Voltage = 600v,pressure = 0.3mbar and room temperature 298k) at different times (3,5,7,9) hr. Plasma nitriding is formed in a vacuum using a high-voltage electrical energy to accelerate nitrogen ions which bombard the alloy surface.
The corrosion protection efficiency inspected of each specimen in saline water (3.5%NaCl) at temperature range (298-328K) have been evaluated using potentiostatic technique with three electrodes cell.
Nitride ion is deposited on the three alloys and the extent of corrosion resistance have been studied. the results obtained showed that the rate of corrosion for all alloys increased with temperature increasing from 298 to 328K. The results showed that deposition of N2 gas as nitride ion (N-) caused to protection efficiency which reached to(72.77%) for C.S 1045, (61.93% ) for C.S 1137 and( 88.79%) for Al 5083 at 298K respectively. The change in free energy, enthalpy ,entropy& apparent energies of activation have been calculated for the corrosion process of uncoated and coated alloys in saline water (3.5% NaCl).
